As a family lawyer, I have seen divorces range from relatively amicable, where the parties remain friendly, to contentious and downright ugly. Whether you have been living separately for some time, or are just coming to terms with the end of your marriage, we understand that you are feeling a wide range of emotions, and while our goal is to finalize your divorce from a legal perspective, we also understand that as a human, this process can take a toll.
At Bechtel Family Law, we know first-hand, from working with hundreds of families like yours, that what you need from a divorce lawyer is sometimes more than legal advice. Sometimes you need flexible scheduling because childcare is chaotic, sometimes you need to amend paperwork to make a certain untraditional request. We are here for you - in all the ways - to make your experience with divorce as least stressful as it can possibly be.
We'll break down the legal process for you, explain what steps should be taken so you understand everything about the proceedings ahead of time, and help you understand the anticipated timeline. Maybe most importantly, we'll help you understand that in your life story, this is just a chapter.
How divorce is approached sets the tone for the entire process. At Bechtel Family Law, we believe the best approach is one that leads to an amicable settlement that both parties can live with.
Compromises by both parties allow each spouse to keep the assets that are more important to them in return for giving up the assets that are most important to the opposing party.
Unfortunately, we can't control how the opposing party will approach the proceedings. We'll start with establishing your goals, ascertaining issues that are less important to you, and hopefully working towards a resolution that is acceptable to both spouses. However, if the opposing party insists on fighting, we can and will suit up for battle.
